    Hiring Guide

How to Choose a Google Ads Agency for Your Beauty Brand

Google is where your highest-intent shoppers decide where to buy, and where beauty brands quietly overpay for customers they already owned. The difference between a good and bad Google agency in beauty usually comes down to one question: how honestly they treat branded search.

Here is what to demand from a paid search partner, and the tells that separate profit operators from spend managers.

    The branded search problem

A large share of most beauty brands' reported Google performance is branded search: people who typed your name and would have found you anyway. Branded clicks are cheap, convert brilliantly, and inflate every blended number the agency reports. Some branded defense is legitimate, especially when competitors conquest your terms. But an agency compensated to grow spend has every incentive to let brand carry the account.

Ask what share of conversions are branded, and what they would do to shrink that dependency. The answer tells you whose side they are on.

Performance Max needs an operator, not a believer

PMax can work in beauty, but out of the box it is a black box that gravitates to branded queries and remarketing. A capable agency controls it: brand exclusions, feed quality for shade and variant data, channel and placement analysis, and honest reporting on where conversions actually came from. If an agency can't explain how they audit PMax placements, they are not managing it. They are renting it.

    Search is capture, not creation

Google converts demand that beauty shoppers built elsewhere: on TikTok, on Meta, at retail shelves. When social spend rises, search volume follows, and a coordinated team captures it with the right coverage and lands it on the right page.

A siloed search agency reports that capture as its own miracle. That is fine for their case studies and bad for your budget allocation.

    Questions to ask

    Five for the first call:

    • 01"What percentage of our reported conversions are branded search, and what is your plan for that number?"
    • 02"How do you structure and audit Performance Max?"
    • 03"When social spend changes, how does the search plan react?"
    • 04"Where do you send beauty traffic: PDPs, landing pages, or collections, and why?"
    • 05"What would make you recommend spending less?"
